We provide community development services... From the television, we saw the gut-wrenching pictures of the Sichuan earthquake. In just seconds, the people of Sichuan suffered pain and sorrow beyond description. We, living overseas, sobbed together with the people in mainland China.
As overseas Chinese, not everyone has the financial resources to donate large amounts of money for reconstruction of the infrastructures. But we may use our professional skills to take care of other problems such as caring for the orphans and elderly; providing comfort and psychological counseling for the victims with heavy losses in the disaster; environmental protection; disease prevention, personal hygiene and so on.
From the television, we saw the gut-wrenching pictures of the Sichuan earthquake. In just seconds, the people of Sichuan suffered pain and sorrow beyond description. We, living overseas, sobbed together with the people in mainland China.
Amongst this tragic event of enormous proportion, we did see some positive light exhibited by the leaders of the country in taking quick actions in mobilizing the People's Liberation Army and the Police in the first hour. There were numerous courageous rescue works. Many lives were saved from the collapsed buildings and rubble. The casualty rate was kept low. The government leaders’ positive actions and their care and concern for the people affected caught the attention of the world community. Rescue teams rushed in promptly from many countries. The massive relief supplies were delivered to the disaster area continuously. We, living overseas, did out best to donate money or supplies to help the urgent needs of the disaster area.
Although sooner or later schools and houses will be rebuilt, many of the victims’ mental health will take more than 3 to 5 years to recover; for example, children who lost one of their parents or both parents; parents who lost their only child and could not give birth again; the elderly couples who lost their spouses, their sons or grandchildren. On their faces there were expressions of hopelessness, how grieved they must be! Even if you could build a new house for them, it would still be very hard for them to regain the happiness. Who could understand their sadness and hurt expressed in midnight dreams? Who could help to ease the children's fear and nightmares?
Go and Love Foundation plans to network with professionals from all fields, participate in the work of comforting and counseling the victims; environmental protection; disease prevention and so on in the disaster areas. If you think you can contribute and have the required professional skills or if you are willing to receive training with a serving heart, you are more than welcome to contact us. Let us be together and GO and LOVE.
