Wish From a Little Girl Living In the Mountain (2010 Spring)

Have you ever thought that an elementary school in a poor mountain area can one day bred some outstanding talent!

With the company of local Overseas Chinese Association leaders and township government leaders, we visited Tengmiehe team, Songlin Village, Fengqing Town to inspect the Leprosy rehabilitation work performed by Go and Love Foundation. We also visited Tengmie Elementary School, also known as the Healthy Village Elementary School, a school

for fully-recovered leprosy patients and their healthy children.

There are only three grades in the school. After the students finish the third grade, they need to continue their education in a school at the foot of the mountain. Two teachers at Healthy Village Elementary School, Peng Shaogui and Mu zhengping, graduated from Fengqing Normal School. They were originally substitute teachers in the village. In order to meet the students’ need for knowledge, they sought for opportunity of higher education despite of their poor family backgrounds. With help of a retired professor from Tsinghua University, they were able to enter Fengqing Normal School and complete the two-year teacher’s college program.

When we walked into a classroom, several students who were busy writing raised their heads and looked at us with surprise. When they learned that the strangers are teachers coming to visit and care for them, their puzzled faces blooms with shy smiles.

During our short stay in the school, we stopped at each student's desk to look at their writings and encourage them to study hard and continue to improve. Every student looked so innocence and intelligent, and their hearts were filled with lofty ideals even though they currently live in this impoverished mountain area.

We saw a little girl wrote her wish on a piece of paper, "When I grow up, I wish to become a doctor. Why do I want to be a doctor? It’s because I would like to help people and heal the sick".

We were all deeply moved, and one visiting teacher expressed willingness to help the girl to fulfill her wish.

Dear readers, you can bring love to this poor mountain area so that all the children loved by our Lord can have the opportunity to fulfill their wishes.
