We provide medical services... Community Development
We provide community development services... Recently, out of concern, someone asked me whether the financial turmoil had affected the services and ministry development of the Go and Love Foundation. It would be impossible for me to answer, "No” to this question in that the crisis did, in fact, have an impact on the Foundation. But, amazingly, it has not stopped our work, because the one who called us is faithful, and His grace is abundant.
In mid-February, we organized a two-and-half-day camp in eastern China for the poor college students we sponsored. We arranged special seminars, movies, group sharing, and other programs. The students are fast learners. At the end of the camp, one student said that he now realized that he should establish a positive self-image, that he should not underestimate himself just because his family was poor, and that he should view himself objectively. Another student said that she had been depressed, but, through this camp, she learned how to rely on God and overcome her own weakness.
At the camp, we discussed such topics as "learning how to communicate and get along," "pursuing holiness in friendship and love," "being a good steward of time and money," "considering where to go after college," and so on. All of the students thought that camps like this are very important to them, especially when they were still growing from youth to adulthood. They hoped the Foundation could hold similar camps every year. What they learned from the teachers is not just the imparting of knowledge, but also the sharing of life. The students were deeply moved by the fact that several teachers who had come a long way to teach them were already seniors.
All of the students come from rural families. Although our sponsorship is minimal, the students and the parents are grateful to the Lord’s abundant grace. We hope these students can study well and, after graduation, serve the Lord in their workplaces.
In late February, I had the opportunity to accompany some overseas Chinese and leaders from municipal Overseas Chinese Affairs Office to visit the leprosy rehabilitation village in Tengmiehe Group, Songlin Village, Fengqing Town, Lincang City, Yunnan Province. After our co-workers briefed the officials about Foundation’s past rehabilitation work, leaders from the local Center for Disease Control and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office gave us high praise. They were surprised at what we had accomplished there.
In this rehabilitation village, there are 46 patients and their children. A woman who lost her feet as a result of severe ulcers had to crawl out of her dark hut for sunshine every day. When she saw us, she said, "I'm afraid I will not live long!" Hearing the voice of extreme despair, I was saddened beyond description. Can you imagine how many people in this world are living in despair like this woman? Who have noticed their existence? Who are willing to care for them and give them the hope of eternity?
