A Different Kind of Love (Fall 2011)

In “Home of Christ”, Betty Chou often shared her works at Go and Love Foundation with us, and I’ve always been attracted by their ministry in Yunnan as English summer camps for poor children, leprosy rehabilitation villages, water cellar projects, and so on. This year, I decided to leverage the opportunity visiting relatives in China as well as taking one week off to Yunnan.

It was already 10 PM when the airplane landed at Kunming airport. Betty picked me up at the airport and told me that we would get up at 6am the next morning flying to Lincang. In Kunming we stayed in the home of a couple working for the Foundation, who left behind their comfortable life in the U.S. and came to serve in China after their son went to college. After greeting, they gave me a brief introduction of their services in Yunnan, which allowed me to better understand the local situation.Read more

He is able to Change(Fall 2011)

It has been just over two months since coming home from the Short Term Service trip to Kunming. Reflecting back on the two week camp, I can see how God had been working all this time. It was my very first visit to China as well as my first overseas mission experience. Nonetheless, it was a great eye-opening experience, serving alongside some of the most amazing people. It was truly a blessing to be a part of this.

However, these two weeks did not go by without any obstacles.Read more

Recollection on English Camp (2011 Summer)

The first week of “Low-carbon Environment Friendly, Character-building English Summer Camp” has just been successfully completed. Recalling God’s grace, I wrote down some items of thanksgiving to share with everyone.

This is the second year when Go and Love Foundation and a local private school co-sponsored the summer camp. In the first week, a total of over 80 students attended. The Foundation recruited 18 foreign teachers and teaching assistants from different churches in the United States, Canada and Hong Kong.Read more

I Am Going to the Town! (2011 Summer)

Mr. Xie Jiashou is over seventy years old this year. I have been calling him “Grandpa.” Grandpa has a kind and warm face. But one could tell from the deep wrinkles on his face that he had gone through much pain and suffering in his life. Grandpa was born to a farmer’s family. He was a modest man with a kind temperament. He had a happy family with a wife, three sons, and a daughter. But in 2003, on the day of the Torch Festival, terrible misfortune struck. His wife had gone to cut down trees in the mountains. However,Read more

The Thirsty Land (Spring 2011)

Brushing teeth, washing face, taking shower and changing underwear regularly, washing hands before meals and after using bathroom, those were the universal standards of personal hygiene inculcated to us since childhood. I never thought of how much water I would have used each day. After back from Yunnan, I no longer consider using water can be taken for granted.Read more

No Good Deed is Too Small (2011 Winter Issue)

In the leprosy rehabilitation village, even the smallest good deed will bring a lot of joy to the villagers.

After I spent the holiday in my hometown, I looked forward to the days when I could visit the villagers, but my office work had accumulated and held me back. After finishing my work, I immediately contacted my loveable coworkers, hoping to arrange a visit to the rehabilitation village. However, unexpected turn of events seems always waiting for us. The recent shortage of diesel made it nearly impossible for us to buy diesel for our car.Read more

They Have No Water to Drink (2011 Winter Issue)

When we urban dwellers need water, all we have to do is to turn on the faucet, and clean water will flow out. We take it for granted, and in case of suspension of water supply or water conservation during a drought, we immediately feel inconvenienced. Perhaps it has never occurred to us that, in certain corners of this world, it’s difficult for people to even get clean drinking water. What kind of life would that be?Read more
